Alfred Edmund Passarelli, who went by Dodie, of Raymond, IA, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, surrounded by his family at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born April 11, 1947, in Trinidad, Colorado to Johnny and Beatrice (Valdez) Passarelli. He was 77 years old.

Dodie graduated from Trinidad High School in 1965 in Trinidad, Colorado. After high school, Dodie joined the Navy and served as Radio Operator on the USS Chicago for four years. Once out of the Navy, he attended Trinidad Jr College and Adams State College both in Colorado, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. He then went on to teach for a short time in Nevada. Dodie had spent most of his life in Colorado before moving to Raymond, IA in 2022 to live with his daughter René and son-in-law Jason. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool, gambling and watching sports, especially watching his grandsons play all of their various sports. He loved to tell the story of how he coached the Gabs, Nevada Tarantulas basketball team to a championship. In his younger days he helped coach his nephew’s baseball team with his brother John, which he was always proud of.

He was a generous man who loved to make people laugh. He cherished his relationships with his family and friends.

Dodie is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita Falsetto; and one brother, John Passarelli.

Dodie is survived by his daughter and son-in law, René and Jason Conkling of Raymond, IA; two grandsons, Devon (Kyla) Conkling and Noah (Katelynn) Conkling both of Waterloo; one great grandson, Maverick Conkling of Waterloo, IA; as well as his extended family residing in Colorado.

His family would like to extend their gratitude to Cedar Valley Hospice for their care and support.
