Andrew Michael Barlow

Andrew Michael Barlow (“Andy” or “Drew”), 40, of Washburn, passed away at home on Monday, August 28, 2023.  

He was born September 2, 1982, in Waterloo, to David J. and Norma J. Barlow. Growing up in Waterloo, he graduated from East High School and then attended Hawkeye Community College. He soon met and married Mary Widmer, with whom he shared a son. They later divorced.  

Andrew was a jack-of-all-trades and never hesitated to learn something new or take on a project. He loved working with his hands, restorations, and remodeling. Always thinking of others, family and friends came first in his life—whether that was cooking Sunday dinner (which he was really good at!), stopping by to check in, texting photos of the kids and pets, or sharing project finds with his dad and brother. He made sure that others knew they were important to him. If he had free time, we could find him reading real, hard-copy books or gaming.  

Andrew is survived by his father, of Waterloo; his son, Henry Barlow of La Porte City; his brother, Bryan (Kelly) Barlow of Waterloo; nephew and niece, Charles and Brenna Barlow of Waterloo; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  

He was preceded in death by his mother.  

A visitation and Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, September 17, 1:00PM-4:00PM at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo. All are invited to join Andrew’s family to share food and memories.
