Clarence was born August 25, 1932, to Oliver & Lulu (Cobb) Smith. He graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1950. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. After the Navy, Clarence went to work at Rath Packing where he worked for 34 years in the maintenance department until the close of the plant. Rumor is he was the second to last person to leave the plant. After Rath, he moved to Colorado to work at Bar S. After a year and half, he showed up at home one day, stating he missed his family. He then worked at Clark Printing until deciding to retire.
Clarence was united in marriage to Carol (Peske) in September of 1965. Clarence was an active member of Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo, where he served on many boards. In his early years, he enjoyed boating where he was an early member of the Waterhawks ski club. He enjoyed bowling, traveling with Carol, and as many will remember, putting together jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; brother, Dean (MaryAnn) Smith; son, Craig Smith, Jacob (Sarah) Smith & Landon, Tyler (Kayla) Smith & Laramie; daughter, Cathleen Smith & Jacob Spengler, as well as other extended family & friends.
