Darlene Lorraine Bristow was born on a farmhouse in Grundy County, Iowa, daughter of Albert and Alice (Boldt) Nielson. She graduated from Waterloo East High School. Darlene was united in marriage to Milton B. Bristow on March 29, 1951; he preceded her in death on April 27, 1993. She enjoyed sewing, painting, crafts, upholstering, and involvement in community service. Darlene was a 20 year Cedar Falls AMVETS Auxiliary member. She won an award from the AMVETS for sewing for the veterans. Darlene was also the Cedar Falls AMVETS Member of the Year.
Darlene passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls at the age of 92. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton; a daughter-in-law Kristi (Zierke) Bristow and two brothers, Albert Nielson and Robert Nielson.
Darlene is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Ron) Uhlenhopp of Cedar Falls and Cathy Bristow of Omaha, Nebraska; a son, Paul (Kelly) Bristow of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a brother, Donald Nielson of Cedar Falls.
Memorials may be directed to Linden United Methodist Church.
Visitation: Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral Service: Friday, February 7, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Linden United Methodist Church, 301 Butler Ave., Waterloo, Iowa.
Burial: Friday, February 7, 2025, at Garden of Memories, 3669 Logan Ave., Waterloo, Iowa.
