Darrell Newman

Darrell Lynn Newman was born on August 2, 1949, in Chicago, the son of Willaim and Charlotte Newman.  Darrell grew up in Postville and graduated from Postville High School in 1967.  He moved to Waterloo in 1968 and worked as a paint supervisor for Waterloo Industries until it closed.  He then worked as a paint supervisor for Welyn Enterprises, retiring in 2008.  Darrell married Sharon Schmidt and later divorced.  He then married Betty Illian and later divorced.  On December 21, 1990, Darrell was united in marriage to Joleen Newman.  He loved boating, snowmobiling, woodworking, golfing, and was a member of the Jesup Golf Course.  Darrell died at the age of 74 on January 27, 2024, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital from dementia and heart complications.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Darrell is survived by his wife, Joleen of Waterloo; 2 sons, Darran (Kristi) Newman of Papillion, Nebraska and D.J. (Kim) Newman of Stewartville, Minnesota; 2 step children, Angie (Dan) Berst of New Hampton and Kirk (Jenni) Bear of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren, Marissa, Kara, Zach, Jayden, Treyton (Bri), Colton (Kaylee), Ariana, Avery, Kenzie, and K.J.; 2 sisters, Roz (Dave) Palas of Postville and Cindy (Jerry) Wagner of Brooklyn; and a brother, Rusty Newman of Postville.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
