Edwin “Ed” Charles Sells was born on April 3, 1936, in New Hartford, the son of Dallas and Stella (Ackerson) Sells. Ed graduated from New Hartford High School in 1954. On October 15, 1966, he was united in marriage to Barbara Case at the Grundy Center United Methodist Church. Ed worked as a lift truck driver for Waterloo Corrugated Box which later became Mead Containers and then Weyerhaeuser, retiring in 1999 after 43 years of service. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, biking, and vacationing in Northern Minnesota. Ed also took great pride in taking care of his house and yard. He was a member of the UAW 838 and St. Paul’s Methodist Church where he was in the Men’s Club. Ed died at the age of 87 on October 20, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Gale and Erwin Sells; and 2 sisters in law, Joyce and Anita Sells. Ed is survived by his wife, Barb of Waterloo; a son, Brock (Sandy) Sells of Ames; 2 grandchildren, Sam and Maddie Sells of Ames; a brother, Gary Sells of Rolla, Missouri; 2 sisters in law, Rhonda Sells of Apache Junction, Arizona and Susan Case of Independence; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with a visitation for an hour prior to the service. The burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
