Gerald Robert Barnes

August 15, 1946 — January 20, 2024

Evansdale

Gerald (Jerry) Barnes, Sr., of Evansdale, peacefully, died at home on January 20th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Topeka, Kansas to Thomas and Aileen (Sester) Barnes, on August 15th, 1946. Jerry served in the United States Army during Vietnam; after the service, he married his beloved wife, Cynthia Neidermeyer, of 55 years, in 1968. He was employed for more than 25 years with Waterloo Industries retiring with the company’s closure in 1997. Jerry is survived by his wife, two sons, Gerald Jr. and Matthew Barnes, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews and one brother, Thomas of Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Linda Caldwell and Patricia Anderson.

Gerald was truly an avid outdoorsman! He excelled in hunting and fishing and enjoyed his time in the outdoors. There wasn't a western; especially with John Wayne, that he hadn't seen repeatedly! Jerry will be sorely missed; remembered as especially humble and a truly devoted family man that proved to be a great provider.

A private family service and burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery will take place on January 25, 2024.
