Howard Harris

Dear Friends,

Howard Harris passed away on June 10th, 2024. He was born August 7th, 1931, at Rex #5 a coal mining camp in Monroe County Iowa. He married Norma Wiley on August 22nd, 1956, at the Free Methodist Church in Oskaloosa Iowa. Howard gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 24 and was called into the ministry. He attended Venard College in University Park, Iowa before graduating from William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Howard was a Pastor with the Free Methodist Church for more than 25 years before retiring in 1978. Howard then continued to pastor part time while he ventured into real estate, an electrician’s apprenticeship, then Young’s Plumbing and Heating, retiring from there 16 years later in 1996.

Howard and Norma had two great Children Joel (Linda) Harris of Waterloo and Julia (Harris) Baldwin of Waterloo along with 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren to whom they loved very much.

Howard loved life and was independent until his passing. Howard had a wonderful spirit that made an impression everywhere he went. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, Minister and Friend. He will be missed by his family and friends greatly.

Please remember Howard as you knew him. The family would request any memorials be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Alzheimer's Associations. Blessings to you as you go forward from this day. Howard’s advice would be to live like the dog, live until you can’t live any more.

Howard is preceded in death by his mother and father: Jean Hastings Harris (1938), Archibald Harris (1987) and his wife, Norma Faye Wiley Harris (2013).

Howard is survived by his children, Joel (Linda) and Julia, 6 grandchildren (Caitlyn, Ian and Ainsley; Chanisse, Ayron and Taylor) and 5 great grandchildren (DeLantae and Amelia, Tanzell Jr and Tra’Vell, and Ehvianna)

Services with be held on Thursday 6/20/2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Chin Christian Church (Formerly the Free Methodist Church) 1737 Cornwall Ave in Waterloo. Food and fellowship are to follow in the fellowship hall and a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
