James Edward Hines

James (Jim) E. Hines was born February 5, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Donald (Ray) and Elizabeth (Betty) Hines. Jim graduated from East High and worked as a metal pattern maker and was active in the Pattern Maker's Union until retirement. He married Patty Garbes on June 18, 1967, in Waterloo. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending his days with his wife and children at trout streams in Iowa and Branson. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandpa and great grandpa, he loved spending time with his family - even if it meant spending the day in the hot sun at Adventureland or Silver Dollar City, holding bags and watching strollers while everyone else rode rides. He was happiest when those around him were happy. He also enjoyed playing billiards, wood working and most of all cheering on the St Louis Cardinals.

Jim passed peacefully at home under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Patty, son Todd (Jane) Hines of Center Point, daughter Dawn Hines of Hudson; brother Don (Linda) Hines of New Hartford; grandchildren Mitchell (Megan) Hines, of Bainbridge GA, Justin Hines, of Chandler AZ, Kirstyn (Spencer) Osborn, of Overland Park, KS, and Hailey Hines of Hudson; and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Betty Hines; sister Betty Jo Ferch; brother Tony Hines; and granddaughter Kasey Hines.

A Celebration of Life will be held September 29th, 2024, from 1 – 4pm at the Community Hall in Dunkerton, Iowa.
