James (Jim) Dennis Nugent was born June 3, 1949, in Waterloo, Iowa. The son of Frank and Ann (Broz) Nugent. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1963. James served in the United States Army for three years. After his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Northern Iowa where he studied World History and received a Bachelor’s Degree. He was married to Pamela McNamee on July 10, 1982, she preceded him in death on May 15, 2022.
James rejoined the military and served with the Iowa Air National Guard for 22 years. He was employed as a Claims Representative at the Social Security Administration Office, retiring on November 1, 2013. James enjoyed building models, photography, cooking and traveling. He was a Boy Scout Leader, historian and an avid reader. James loved spending time with family and friends and adored pugs.
James passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 74. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife and two sisters, Joyce O’Hara and Jannien Leonard. He is survived by two sons, Aaron (Jaime) Nugent of Cedar Falls and Andrew (Ilonka) Nugent of St. Louis; a daughter, Kelsey (Adam) Jackson of Altoona and five grandchildren, Tyler, Jackson and Aubrey Nugent and Logan and Caleb Jackson.
Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Visitation: Monday, May 6, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories.
Burial: Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.
