June M. Niedert, 85, of Cedar Falls, passed away Monday, March 24, at Theusen Cottage, Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls. June was born in Waterloo, IA, to Harold A. Knight and Hazel Rush Knight on June 16, 1939. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1957. She was united in marriage on May 31, 1958, to David W. Niedert at Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2019.
June was active in her community. She was a devoted volunteer, volunteering at World’s Window, Meals on Wheels, KBBG Phone-Thon, Essentials Collections for Cedar Valley Aid Society and Battered women’s shelter, Walter Cunningham Christmas gifts for families and Walter Cunningham uniform and clothing drive for students, Operations Smile and the Cedar Falls Woman’s Club. She was awarded the Cedar Falls Mayor’s Award for volunteerism in 2006. She was also very active in her church, St. Timothys United Methodist in Cedar Falls, Women and United Methodist Women’s Committee on Relief.
Most of all, June was involved with her family. She was the mom bus for sports, to 4H, Boy Scouts and many activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. Many family fishing trips, swim meets and day trips around Iowa.
She is survived by her children, Michelle (Randy) Cook of Hudson, Lisa Niedert of Waterloo and Michael Niedert of Cedar Falls. Her grandsons, Aaron (Breana) Cook and Michael Johnson Niedert Jr. Her great-grandchildren, Dakota, Colton and Rylee Cook. Brothers, Dennis (Linda) Knight of Urbandale and Randy (Roberta) Knight of Bondurant and sisters, Sharon (Richard) Poffenberger of Bondurant and Jennifer Leila Sylvester of Glendale, Arizona. Sister-in-law, Kathleen Niedert of Hudson and many nephews and nieces.
Services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 10:30 am at St. Timothys United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, with burial to follow at Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Visitation will be Friday, March 28, at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home, from 4 to 7 pm, and one hour before services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Timothys UMC or the Cedar Falls Woman’s Club.
