Marion Christena Odom

Marion Christena (Jacobsen) Odom, age 95, of Waterloo, died October 10, 2023.

Marion was born August 8, 1928, the daughter of Einer and Lillian (Andersen) Jacobsen in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Marion graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and later was employed by the Arthur Davis Agency in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1990.

Marion loved music, especially classic country/western and gospel. She sang, played piano and electric base guitar. Marion’s hobbies included crocheting afghans and growing houseplants. She enjoyed family parties and traveling around the U.S.

Marion is survived by three daughters, Janet (Ken) Beier of rural Sumner, Vicki (Mark) Thompson of Center Point and Lynette Hockey of Evansdale; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Marion is preceded in death by a daughter, Susan A. (Minikus) Tiefel; two sons, Stanley D. Minikus and Ronald R. Hockey; granddaughter, Kelsey R. Lee; grandson, Alan R. Tiefel; two sisters, Viola M. Holmes and Hilda Jacobsen and two brothers, Gerald L. Jacobsen and John Jacobsen.

Marion’s family would like you to wear her favorite color blue to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Memorial Visitation: Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4031 Lafayette Rd., Evansdale.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4031 Lafayette Rd., Evansdale.

Private family burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
