Mary Bauer

Mary Bauer was born November 28, 1925, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Chiack) Ludwig. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Elma, IA. Mary was married to Irvin Schmitz. They later divorced. She would later be married to Glen Bauer. She loved her family, sewing, plants and the many years she spent in Arizona.

Mary passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the age of 98. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Glen; her brothers Joe Ludwig, Francis Ludwig, Rev. Raphael Ludwig, and William Ludwig, her sister Mildred Kobliska, and her daughter in law Carol Schmitz.

 Mary is survived by her sons Gerald Schmitz of Waterloo, IA and Kenny Schmitz of Steamboat Springs, CO; her brother John (Connie) Ludwig of Elma, IA; her sister Josephine (Ray) Mehlberger of Cedar Rapids, IA; her sister in laws Marge Ludwig of Elma, IA and Rita Ludwig of Decorah, IA; her grandchildren John (Jennifer) Schmitz of Maupin, OR; Brain (Deidra) Schmitz of Rochester, MN; Laurie (Kent) Williams of Cedar Falls, IA; and Jason (Kelley) Schmitz of Cedar Falls, IA. Mary also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to thank Cedar Valley Hospice and Deery Suites for all the loving care they provided for Mary.

The family requests no flowers and asks instead that memorials be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Elma, IA.

Burial to follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery immediately following Mass
