Mary Jean Thompson

Mary Jean Brunson Thompson was born December 7,1932, in Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Alta (Lockie) Thompson.  Mary attended Edison School in Waterloo. She married Edwin L. Thompson on June 11, 1949, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on November 17, 1998. Mary worked for Schick Razor Blade and Wiser Lock Company in California. She then moved to Waterloo and worked for Gatke Cuttery before becoming a stay-at-home mom and grandma.  Mary enjoyed going to the casino, going out to eat with friends and family, camping and fishing. She especially enjoyed visiting California.

Mary passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Unity Point Health-Allen Memorial in Waterloo. She is preceded death by her parents; spouse, William; daughter, Glenda Kim Thompson; two brothers, Roy Brunson and Dale Brunson; and sister, Donna DeVoogd.  Mary is survived by her son, William (Patricia) Thomspon of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Matthew, Eric and Lucas Thompson; five great-grandchildren, Samantha Johnson, Payton, Hunter, Landon and Gunner Thompson.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Visitation: Monday, October 9, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo.

Service: Monday, October 9, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo.

Burial: Garden of Memories following the service.
