Shirley Eileen Jones

Shirley Eileen (Brooks) Jones was born September 6, 1936, in Iowa Falls, IA, to Mortimer and Floy (Brightwell) Brooks. After her family moved to Waterloo when she was 10 years old, Shirley graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954. On June 16, 1956, Shirley married Keith Jones in Waterloo, IA; they had two children: James and Kimberly. Shirley and her family spent many weekends and vacation times at their cabin overlooking the Mississippi River in Lansing, Iowa.  Keith passed away in 2003. For many years Shirley enjoyed being a childcare provider at her home and then at Bright Beginnings Daycare on Byron Ave. Shirley also enjoyed playing cards and shopping for gifts for her family and friends, but her biggest joy was watching her granddaughter, Grayson, grow up and dance. In 2019, Shirley moved to California to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Dean.

 Shirley passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Tehachapi, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith, and one sister, Mary Burdine Bartling. Shirley is survived by her son, James (Jocelyn) Jones, of Cedar Falls, IA; one daughter, Kimberly (Dean) Peterson of Tehachapi, CA; one granddaughter, Grayson Peterson of Tehachapi, CA, one niece, Janine Altema of Richfield, MN, and another niece, Janis Myers of Spencer, IA.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

 Services will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, 11:00am at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, IA, with visitation starting at 9:30am. Shirley will be buried at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo, IA, following the service.

 There will be a luncheon at First United Methodist Church, 614 Randolph St, Waterloo, IA, following the burial.
