Wendell John Schmidt

Wendell John Schmidt was born October 15, 1935, in Bremer County, Iowa, the son of William and Caroline (Brandt) Schmidt. He married Victory “Vicki” Schaulis on April 21, 1962, she preceded him in death in 2017.  Wendell was in the United States Army and once out, Wendell did reserve duty for two years, then went to work at John Deere, retiring after 37 years. He was a classic car enthusiast and was an avid Cubs fan. He liked to fish, but if he went with family, he spent 90% of his time baiting hooks, fixing gear, or taking fish off of mom’s pole!  Wendell was not a social butterfly; he was quiet and reserved. However, he did enjoy being around his family.

Wendell passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at New Aldaya Lifescapes, at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife and a sister Janola Schmidt. Wendell is survived by two sons, Tim (Dawne) Schmidt of Boone, Iowa, and Brent (Antoinette) Schmidt of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Patti (Jim) Taylor of Cedar Falls and Brenda (Greg) Kadera of California; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Wilma Frost of LaPorte City and Diane Nation of Harpers Ferry.
